My Hunkydory Home - Spring has sprung! March 04, 2017 19:44
So Spring seems to be on it's way!
Yes, there's still a crisp nip in the air, but it's brighter, lighter, and the daffs are making an appearance. I always get twitchy this time of year, and start reaching for my paint brushes, 'cleansing' my hunkydory home - awakening from the hibernation of winter, and replacing my cosy comforts, with more sunnier additions.
I've started the transformation on the outside - I've actually got a bit of a problem when it comes to my front door. See, to me, it's the introduction to your home. I want the colour on my door to reflect what's happening inside, and it's often a neglected part of the home.
I've actually changed my front door colour 3 times since this time last year - it's not unusual for Mr hunky to nip to the shops, and when's he's back it's not the front door he remembered. I want to feel happy when I look at my home, and a new colour can certainly do this.
So after much pinterest'ing , and door lusting on dog walks, we (I) settled on this eye popping royal blue, outdoor autentico paint.
I must say, I'm not a huge fan of blue. It can look cold, and a bit stark, but this shade works so well on duller days, and when the sun is shining. I'm also less of a fan of prepping - who has time to sand, prime blah blah...with this outdoor paint you literally slap it on (maybe a little wipe down first!) and jobs a good'un. It also works on PVC doors too. A new shiny knocker , and it looks like a new door!
The makeover continues in the living room - a lovely bright, sunny room, but in need of some oomph.
My newly acquired, free (apart from a bottle of fizz and some flowers) beautiful, original fire surround, is the focus of the room, and wasn't given the centre stage it deserved. Did I mention it was free?!
I'm not really one for following trends, but when I saw the new colour of 2017 denim drift paint from dulux, I knew it was the colour I needed to try, so promptly bought a tester. I LOVE it, so now have a feature wall in this fabulous colour.
The fire surround was painted with rust-oleum furniture paint in cotton. Again, super easy to use, can be painted straight over most surfaces.
The denim drift look amazing in the alcove, and shows off my lovely Melissa Castillon print. I've also used one my own table lamps, this is spanking new to buy this week, and the charcoal swallows were made for this space.
My existing bits and bobs in the room, sit nicely with their new bluey/grey neighbour. I love yellow and grey, and already have this Ikea throw in my fave colours, it's not a heavy winter one, so makes the seasonal transition well. At £12 too it's a steal!
To compete my spring make over, I have this sunny print in my basket over at Bold & Noble, I love their prints, and very reasonably priced too.
Nothing gives that spring hit, like a vase full of beautiful flowers. The simplicity of these gypsophilia with eucalyptus, look lovely with my freshly painted walls, and yet another Bold & Noble print - and it's in the sale at the moment!
So embrace this season of new beginnings, and if you do only one thing, buy yourself some beautiful flowers - you deserve it!
Now where's my paint brush...
