My Favourite finds - Autumn 2017 November 11, 2017 19:58

Autumn is well and truly upon us. We can hibernate until Spring, wishing away the coming months to welcome the sun again, or embrace the comfy cosiness that Autumn brings.

One sure way to achieve this, is to introduce a bit a faux fur into your home. Faux fur is huge this season, and there are some absolute smashers around. Here are a couple of my favourites :

Faux fur bench from Maisons du Monde £108

This Ikea rug  is a steal at  £10! Buy two and drape one over a chair.

The fabulous brand Selfish Mother, have teamed up with Save the Children, with a different celebrity designing each sweatshirt. This is definitely going on my Christmas list, and with 50% of the retail price going straight to Save the Children, not only do they look the part, but they are raising a huge amount for this amazing charity. It's sure to keep the autumn chill away, and looks super cool too.

They are £50 and available here

I've been lusting after these fabulous Charley Harper Flock Of Birds stickers for a while now , and have just ordered them hoping they'll work in the bathroom? Not sure how they'll hold up with the steam, but they can always fly off to our bedroom.

I love Charley Harper designs, his unique minimalist style is unmistakable. We have his amazing flamingo and Heron  already available in lampshades, but have two new stunning designs to add over the coming weeks...

Another fun purchase this week, is these fabulous light switch stickers. I've bought them for little miss, and as she's always wanting to re-do her bedroom (definitely her mothers daughter) these are perfect!

There's nothing quite like a spanking new, crisp set of bedding to snuggle under, and as my thoughts turn to cosying up our bedroom, this set from Mini Moderns is top of my list. I'm a huge fan of all things Mini Moderns, but this Darjeeling print has to be my most favourite!

My final favourite, is a brand new addition to hunkydory home for autumn. I'm keeping this one myself, I absolutely love it! This little beauty has a photoshoot this week, so will be available next week on the website. We've also some fabulous new lamp bases coming soon too, I'm sooo excited for these, they're the same as our handmade solid oak bases, but with a new look!

I'm off now for snuggles with my girl, cosying up in front of the fire with a hot chocolate. I love autumn...

Help! How do I create a Minecraft themed bedroom? September 22, 2016 13:45

I'm sure many of you are like me and have lovely ideas for how to decorate your offspring's bedrooms; browsing Pinterest and Instagram for ideas, I mean where else in the house can you be really bold with colour and fun features than your child's room?

Then your plans are brought abruptly to a halt.  They want a Minecraft themed room, a room of brown and green and black blocks, I think there's barely anything less inspiring to an adult with a head full of whimsical ideas.

Fear not, I have been there and I reached a compromise with my daughter; we won't paint walls dull colours, we won't buy overpriced merchandise.  We agreed to make our own accessories with a nod to the game (as let's face it, it will be another craze in a year or so), this enabled us to have fun creating together.

I hope some of these ideas are helpful to you.

I made this patchwork quilt for my daughter following a tutorial I found on Pinterest, I've never made a quilt before and it was a real labour of love.  She uses it as an extra blanket on the bed and also when she's curled up on the sofa watching youtubers.  I like the idea of using a traditional craft to create something very modern.

Creeper cushion

We also made some mini Creeper cushions, these were super easy.  We got some bright green fabric from IKEA and some black felt.  We cut the creeper shape out of the felt and stuck (easier for kids than sewing) it onto the fabric.

I used the same fabric from the reverse of the quilt I made to make this pixels lampshade , the beauty of the lampshade is that it's easy to change when she has a new interest.

What's been fun about creating these accessories for my daughter's Minecraft room is that we've been able to both be involved in the process and my daughter has really enjoyed educating me about her favourite game.   I thoroughly recommend this approach!  I hope it gives you some inspiration for decorating your Minecraft fan's room too.

Hello 2016 January 14, 2016 17:26

Northumberland Snow

It's taken me a little while to get going this New Year so please forgive my absence, I'm back in the swing of things now and excited about the new year.  I hope to share more on this blog so you can see behind the scenes at Hunkydory HQ (aka my home!).

In Northumberland we had a decent covering of snow today, I'm so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world and I love how the countryside sparkles in the winter weather.

During the cold snap I am taking the opportunity to make brand new lampshade and cushion designs and I can't wait to get them photographed so I can share them with you.  I have found some fabulous new geometric fabrics, some lovely children's designs and some old favourites in new colours.  Let's hope the sun shines brightly over the next week so I can get some photography done.

Retro Flowers: My first collection October 11, 2015 21:11

I'm so excited to introduce my very first collection of fabrics which I've turned into fabulous cushions and lampshades, I really hope you like it too.

I really wanted this collection to reflect Hunkydory style; bright colour and a retro feel! The table lamps, cushions and lampshades ooze with nostalgia and burst with colour. The fabrics feature bold floral motifs in brilliant colours are inspired by my childhood in Scandinavia and my love of vintage design. All products are designed and made in England using a soft, textured hopsack fabric.

The collection features two key designs in complementary colours, each piece works fabulously on its own as a statement or together as a set. The Isobel Flowers design features cream flowers set against a vibrant orange red, teal blue or golden yellow background. The Martha Flowers design features a round floral motif in two colour ways; orange red and blue or teal blue and sunshine yellow against a cream background.
I wanted to keep the products affordable and so the plump 45cm square cushions are £25.00, lampshades £35.00 and table lamps with glossy ceramic base are £75.00.
All the cushions and lampshades are handmade here in England and, don't forget, there's free postage on everything.
